As many of you have seen, there is a burst of watercoloring techniques incorporated into scrapbooking & cardmaking. I am no expert artist- I don’t really know how to hold a brush correctly:)
I saw this easy…and I mean EASY technique using the Tim Holtz Distress Inks and some water by Unify Handmade. Here are the steps:
#1 On a slick surface (I used the Ranger Craft Sheet) smear your preferred Distress Inks leaving a space in between. For this card I used Victorian Velvet and Broken China.
#2 Once your colors are down on the slick surface- spritz it with water until it beads. I looove my Mini Mister (MM) for this. If you are using a MM, spray it about 5-6 times. Side Note: I was always hesitant to buy a MM because I thought “it’s just water”…well that MM is perfect for delivering the right about if spray & water on your projects without over saturating the area.
#3 Next, use a good quality paper that will hold up to the water. You can use the Distress Paper for Watercoloring, as I did in this project, or any other paper of similar quality. Slide your paper across the beaded inked colors until you get the pattern/color desired. On this card I finished it off with Smooch Spritz in Vanilla Shimmer in it’s wet phaseSide Note: I had a difficult time finding the new Distress Paper for Watercoloring at my local Joanns or Michaels. I previously picked up the Adriondack Alcohol Ink Cardstock. It’s a good alternative but the texture in the Distress Paper for Watercoloring is one that I prefer.
#4 Your paper will be a little drippy at the edges and you can move it around if you like to move more of the color around. Once satisfied, you can let it sit to dry or you can grab your heat tool to move along the process. I’ve heard it over and over again that the final product looks better once it dries and it is very true.
Additional products for this card:
Lawn Fawn Plus One
Versafine pigment ink in Onyx
Spectrum Noir
Copic Marker in Cool Gray
Personally, cardmaking/scrapbooking is a bit challenging recently as I am in a location transition & all my goodies are stored. I have a few cardmaking essentials but it’s just not the same. However, it has given me a greater appreciation for my workspace 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
